You can read us right below!
Let me ask you a question
whether you’re a man or woman
Does your closet empower women?
but hey before you jump into conclusions
hear me out
fashion is highly tied to empowering women
but not exactly this way...
What are you wearing?
What are you wearing?
What are you wearing?
I guess this is how it goes nowadays.
But, here’s the thing, since perhaps... forever.
Everyone has something to say about what Women are wearing!
too vulgar,
too revealing,
too casual,
too concealing
well, it’s women’s international day,
and that’s a good reminder of all the things women had fought for
but also what we’re still fighting for up to date
equality and equity
but think about this
just one century ago
when women marched to claim their right to vote,
they had to do it
while wearing this
because that what it took to be beautiful back then
even though it was choking them
like literally!
Thankfully today things are different!
Because the mindset is changing
It’s about comfort first,
and fashion had no choice but to keep up with the market
That's why today
Women can show up at work with this instead of this
unless it’s against policies to wear flat shoes
which doesn’t make any sense
like why?
Also,
that’s why there is nothing wrong showing up on a date wearing this instead of this
The point is, it doesn’t matter if you dress up classy or casually
that’s not what empowering women is about
everyone should wear whatever they want/like
but there is a curve-ball here
The fashion industry has said over and over
they support women
they want to empower them
by providing them beautiful items
with the nicest/empowering slogans like this
"Feminism is the radical notion that women are people."
And yet,
fast Fashion is the same industry that exploits women more than any other industry in the world
To make a tee like this
A lot of big famous brands
don’t even pay their women workers half of what they should earn
Most of these women have to work, up to 16h a day,
sometimes with almost no breaks,
to get only 2$
2 freaking $!
That’s inhumane!
And here is the thing
The fashion industry depends widely on women
in fact up to 90% of their workers are women
Besides, studies showed that
1 of 6 people around the world, is working in this industry
that means fashion industry could make
about 1 billion lives better
they could empower 100 and 100 of millions of women
by paying them fair wages
setting reasonable working hours
granting them decent breaks
offering them opportunities to grow
or even supporting their education.
Why not?
But none of this is happening
because unlike what they state
the fast fashion doesn’t actually care about empowering women
They care about one thing
and one thing only
PROFIT
and that’s why
most women are paid this for this
with no opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families
So, women’s international day or not
we need to bring to LIGHT
fake empowering women
fake feminism
fake equality
Empowering women
is not only about buying clothes with a nice slogan like this
it’s about making sure that no woman is treated like this
Because in the end, empowering women is about respecting their human rights
And hey,
the fashion industry is not the only one to blame here
We can ALL do better!
Imagine if each one of us acknowledge this reality
and raise awareness about it.
Wouldn't it make our world a better place for everyone?!
offering flowers to women is fine
but giving them the respect they deserve is how we change things around.
So let me ask you this again.
Does your closet empower women?
Do your everyday actions empower women?
We need to face the ugly truth
so maybe someday,
everyone would treat
any woman in the world as a human being
because after all
women are people
Coconutly,
Thanks for watching,
See you next time :)
